Delhi Tales 2: Some History, Food, Temples, and Ghosts!
The day commences with my visit to Jantar Mantar. Oh yes, and before that! How can I forget the "Dharna spot"—the place where you dissent and raise your voice against or for something that has happened or is happening? I'm not sure if that would make Delhi a better place to live, but I appreciate people taking time out with the intention of doing good for society or fighting for justice. There were protests in the name of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, and Bhagat Singh. The irony of the screams here is that our freedom fighters wanted to unite India, and today we come apart in their names. Long live the dead! If you doubt that the law does not align with democracy, come to Delhi and witness the same!
So yes! Back to Jantar Mantar. The place is fantasising! The instruments built in 1700 with so much exactitude astonish you. People back then had an understanding of the occurrence of the lunar and solar eclipses, taking into consideration the minute latitude and the longitude degree and not just estimations. Well, one should not be surprised by the instruments because, after all, it was Aryabhatta from India who invented 'Zero'.
Next, we proceed for our lunch at the Kerala house in Samridhi. The place where you can have chicken fry, fish fry, and two amazing Kerala meals—everything for 200 bucks!
Our next terminus on the list was "Agrasen ki Baoli," a place for storing water during ancient times. The highlight of the place is that it is haunted and is closed in the evening. I had a weird feeling that I would not and cannot describe, and I hope it was more in my head.
From there, we head towards the Lotus Temple, and the moment you look at it, you go speechless. Probably the weather, the evening, and the concoction of the sky colours along with the sunset played their roles, but the sight of the Lotus temple was mesmerising. The temple is run by people who follow the Bahai religion. Beautifully crafted, surrounded by a clear sky and blue waters, in the centre of a huge garden full of flowers completes the packaging of the place. A treat to the eyes and a perfect end to the evening.
Having never really observed Delhi so closely before, I am sure there must be a hell lot to explore. But as of now, I hope to have covered all the rooftops of the capital. Delhi is a city of chats, monuments, and culture that is beautifully preserved by the people of the city.
True to what it is said~ Ye Delhi hai mere yaar—Bas Ishq, Mohabbat, Pyaar! 💖
