We call it the city of joy! - Kolkata

Although I am originally from Kolkata, I have been staying in Gujarat (the land of Khaman, Dhokla, Khandvi, and Thepla) for the past 18 years….I don’t know why, but I did not like the city (Kolkata) at all, including the Kolkataites!. I found their idiosyncrasies so weird (excluding my cousins!). I love them all. Exceptions are always there, you know. But my stay in Kolkata for the past 2 months (for my industrial training) changed the picture in my mind.
My first few days in Kolkata were terrifying. I had loads of problems here. Bengali food problem, Bengali accent problem, Friends problem, and so on... I used to get so frustrated that I felt like running away from the place, and I promised myself that I would never come back to this place again!
One fine night, when I was crying and feeling sad, an angel bestowed upon me, and I could see a silver lining in the dark cloud (sounds dramatic, right?). Suddenly, a thought gushed into my mind: Enough is more than enough now! I am not going to drag my life here every day." Instead, I will live every day with ebullience. The next day, I woke up early in the morning, went to the terrace to breathe fresh air, and then started off with my project work. I decided to complete my project before time. And to accomplish my task, I used to go to the office early and leave late.
I learned to be independent. I had also made a lot of good friends at my Kolkata hostel. During the weekends, I used to hang out with my cousins and friends. Finally, I had stopped criticising the place. I started liking Bengali food (although I don’t like it much). I have also improved my Bengali accent. In fact, now I can read Bengali, which I had not known earlier. I made a few Bengali friends (for the first time ever in my life!) and I was forced to conclude that Kolkataites are not at all bad. In fact, they are really very sweet, good-natured, and helpful. I have learned a lot of things from them (other than technical knowledge).
This time, I also had a close look at the city. Believe it or not, Kolkata is the only metropolis where people from all sectors of society (be it rich or poor,a serviceman or a businessman, a fashioner or a fashion disaster!) can survive according to one’s own needs. I mean, one does not have to struggle much for one’s survival. I cannot express exactly what I mean to say in this regard. But one thing I can rightly say is that Kolkata is truly a “metro city(although many people outside Kolkata deny this fact). hardly matters, right??!)
There are a lot of pros and cons to the city, but according to me, the pros are greater. I had an awesome vacation this time. Credits: My Kolkata friends and cousins. I love you loads, and of course, the company where I worked.
At the end of these 2 months of my stay in Kolkata, I am happy to confess that I am in love with the city, especially the Sector 5 area, also known as the “IT City," which motivated me every morning to complete my project asap. Today, when I am leaving this place, I can feel that I am going to miss something for some time (on a positive note). Honestly, I would love to come back to this place again, if fate permits me to do so!!
Lastly, now I know why people say, "Amar Shonar Bangla!"
Cheers!!!
